LOCATION: Dunedin is New Zealand's fourth most populous city, and second largest city on the South Island (after Christchurch). Founded in 1848 by Scottish colonists who thought its weather and coastline reminiscent of their former British homeland, Dunedin has become an international city with a young, diverse population. Its fine harbor has made Dunedin a major port. Its respected university has made Dunedin a respected seat of learning. As the principal city in the southern half of the South Island, Dunedin plays an important role in the burgeoning economy of this part of
New Zealand.

HOSTING: Olivia, the co-owner/hostess at Dunedin House, is a New Zealander originally from Northern Ireland who takes great interest in the comfort and welfare of her guests. Chatty and warm, she becomes an instant friend or a long-lost family member within minutes of guest arrival.
Alan, the co-owner and chef at Dunedin House, brings more than thirty years experience cooking New Zealand and international cuisine to the lodging's breakfast table and boutique restaurant.

THE SETTING: Dunedin House is set apart from the bustle of Dunedin city. Its location on the end of a cul de sac ensures a traffic and noise-free setting. A five-minute walk accesses a sizeable market, numerous services, and a fine local pub restaurant at the neighborhood center. A five-minute drive reaches The Octagon, Dunedin's Victorian city center, or can lead to the entrance to the scenic drive around the Otago Peninsula. Within two minutes drive is an entrance to Dunedin's Southern Motorway one of very few limited-access highways in New Zealand which provides quick access of Dunedin Airport, the roads leading southwest to the scenic Catlins and to the wonders of FIORDLAND, and west across the former (and present) Otago goldfields towards Queenstown.

ACTIVITIES: Dunedin city is known for its Victorian architecture Dunedin House is a prime example its excellent Pacific beaches at Saint Clair and Saint Kilda (both about one mile south of Dunedin House), the dramatically beautiful Otago Peninsula with its important bird sanctuary with penguin and Royal Albatross colonies, and its famed narrow-gauge Taieri Gorge Railway that offers daily trips into the South Island's wild, rugged interior from downtown Dunedin's grand railway station most of the year. The Taieri Gorge Express connects with the scenic Otago Central Rail Trail, offering easy cycling adventures in remote territory and a unique way for travel between Dunedin and Queenstown.
