KILLIN IS SET BEAUTIFULLY IN THE CENTRAL
HIGHLANDS. SHOWN IS MAIN STREET KILLIN
LOOKING NORTHEAST TO BEN LAWERS.

THE SETTING: Lyndsay's Cottage is located near the center of the Central Scotland town of Killin, population 700. Situated at the northeastern entrance to LOCH LOMOND AND TROSSACHS NATIONAL PARK and at the western end of Loch Tay, Killin is a popular tourist destination with a good selection of pubs and restaurants, as well as food shops, a tourist center, a launderette, craft shops, an outdoor activities center, a golf course, and a bank. All services (except for the 9-hole golf course, which is only three minutes by car from the lodge) are within five-minutes walking distance of the cottage.

Despite being near the town center

the cottage is on a quiet residential street set away from Killin's main street and is unaffected by traffic volume even on summer weekends when Killin is at its busiest.

LOCATION: Killin, often called the "Gateway to the Highlands", sits in the shadow of BEN LAWERS (3,983’), one of Scotland’s highest mountains. Located at the western end of beautiful, 15-mile-long Loch Tay where the Rivers Dochart and Lochay enter the lake, Killin is blessed with a beautiful setting, straddling a waterfall and surrounded by the Highlands, an extraordinary landscape of mountains, glens, and lochs. Central Scotland is best known for its bad-boy favorite son, Rob Roy MacGregor, legendary Scottish patriot, whose infamous cattle rustling, inter-clan feuding, and Highland hi-jinks made him something of a Celtic Jesse James to the

occupation. And, while it’s impossible to know where his legend ends and historical reality begins, the Rob Roy story only adds dimension and color to the already mystical heather, and gorse of the Scottish Highlands.

&  PINNACLE OF THE HIGHLANDS OF CENTRAL
SCOTLAND, LOCATED JUST NORTHEAST OF KILLIN.

ACTIVITIES: Killin is located in the central Scotland region called Breadalbane (Scottish Gaelic for "the upper part of Scotland") in the midst of superb Highlands scenery: mountains, fields, and lochs. The region attracts enthusiasts of outdoor activities: golf (including the historic TAYMOUTH CASTLE COURSE), fishing (stream and loch; trout and salmon), BIKING, horse riding, HIKING, canoeing. Once controlled by the Campbells, Lords of Breadalbane, the region formerly extended nearly 100 miles west from the River Tay (at Aberfeldy) almost to the west coast.
Killin is in the virtual center of

Scotland. Central Scotland is the perfect

base from which the Highlands, the

Inner Hebrides isles, coastal lands east and west, and the great Scottish cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Inverness can be reached in a series of day trips by car. Day excursions to both Scotland’s east and west coasts (St. Andrews to the east, and the Inner Hebrides Islands to the west), and throughout the beautiful Highlands are easily accomplished. But Central Scotland itself is worthy of intense exploration. The region’s beauty, its friendly, welcoming residents, its castles, golf courses, Highlands festivals, challenging hiking, LOCHS, salmon fishing (excellent in and around Killin), and many other attractions provide the central region with the best of
