NELSON,
SOUTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND |
Nelson, capital of the South Island's
Nelson Region, boasts New Zealand's
sunniest climate. It can also boast of its superb
location amid three national parks. Home to
one of the nation's finest regional cuisines, Nelson offers quality wines,
produce, and
seafood. All this in a compact, friendly,
youthful, very walkable city with a dynamic
cultural scene. What could be better? May we suggest an elegant
Victorian inn set in
quiet gardens in Nelson's geographic center with gracious hosting and
all the touches? |

THE ACCOMMODATIONS:
Home
At First guests love
our Nelson Inn. This Victorian age (built circa 1880) former deanery of the adjacent Nelson
Cathedral provides excellent accommodation in a fine setting and excellent location ideal
as a base for travel throughout this most interesting part of New Zealand. A recent
complete renovation has restored the homes grandeur and added to its comfort. |
There are seven unique bedrooms upstairs in the two-story house, each
with its own personality, and each opulently furnished. The beds are
right for royalty, and the en suite bathrooms as practical and
immaculate as they are beautiful. Rooms have
blackout drapes, electric blankets, hairdryers
and curling- irons, bathrobes, television, direct dial telephone, data
point, workspace, fresh flowers and are maid-serviced daily. Fresh cut
flowers grace each room. A helpful luggage
elevator eliminates the heavy lifting. |

DINING IN NELSON. |
THE SETTING: The house sits up on a hillock almost like a pedestal next to
Nelson Cathedral. Set on high ground in the center of the city, the inn looks out over the
treetops to the hills that surround Nelson on three sides. The ocean is just out of sight,
except in winter when some of the trees lose their leaves. Within shorts walks are the
center of Nelson city with many restaurants, cafés and shops. A short drive
leads to Nelson’s waterfront, with its trendy restaurants, to three golf
courses, art galleries, theaters, and lovely, peaceful parks and
gardens. The Nelson Airport is about 15 minutes away. |
THE LOCATION:
Nelson, on the north coast of New Zealands
South Island, is best known for three things: the
best weather in New Zealand, three very different National Parks, and the quality wines
that come from its numerous vineyards. Equidistant from Nelson are the fascinating regions
of the Marlborough Sounds and Abel Tasman National Park.

In our customers' own words—
"Our Nelson Inn hostesses were so helpful
in setting up activities and generally insuring our enjoyment of the region. Breakfasts
were delicious. Even though we were leaving very early one morning to go kayaking, we were
served a breakfast of fresh baked croissants, fruit, etc."
