You want New Zealand eclectic? Rotorua Lodge combines the relaxed
atmosphere of a plush, rural retreat with the sporting camaraderie of a
fishing lodge. An enthusiastic, personable Anglo-Kiwi couple (originally
from the Cotswolds and Yorkshire) are the owner/hosts. They are
dedicated to the comfort of their guests and the success of
their visits. For many guests the pursuit of New Zealand happiness
culminates here.

THE ACCOMMODATION:
Rotorua Lodge offers three spacious bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and
TV. Bathrooms have hair dryers and heated towel racks. The bedrooms
feature views overlooking Lake Rotorua, two from furnished balconies.
Common rooms include a
spacious guest lounge overlooking the lake with Sky TV, pool table,
library, fridge, computer/internet station, and tea/coffee facilities.
There is a separate conservatory/breakfast room with cozy log fire and
bar. |

The lodge provides guests a choice of continental or cooked-to-order
breakfast each morning. Wide, furnished verandahs open onto manicured

their adopted home, New Zealand's Rotorua region. Originally from rural England,
the married couple emigrated to New Zealand where they raised their
children while operating the lodge and organizing fishing trips for
visitors. They will help you make arrangements for all kinds of activities, from
golf to dinner reservationsbut especially fishing, for
your host is an expert fishing guide.

Visitors to Rotorua can encounter
New Zealand's native Maori culture
at a native-owned geo-thermal park
and at a Maori cultural evening that
includes a traditional hangi dinner.

THE
LOCATION: of Rotorua Lodge is about ten minutes drive northwest of the
small city of Rotorua, best known as the center of New
Zealands large, active geothermal area. Like Americas Yellowstone Park,
Rotoruas two thermal reservesWhakarewarewa and Waiotapuare home to a strange geology of geysers,
fumeroles, boiling mudpots, and hot springs. The thermal reserves can be found by following
your nosethe pungent smell of sulphur permeates Rotorua (but does not reach Rotorua Lodge).
Rotorua is also a well-known center of native Maori culture.
The Whakarewarewa thermal reserve
is on Maori landland sacred to native New Zealanders. The dual attractions of
the large geothermal zone and the Maori culture make Rotorua a major New Zealand tourism
center. For its size Rotorua offers a great number of restaurants, shops, and activities. |

ACTIVITIES:
In addition to the thermal reserve, Rotorua offers the opportunity to observe traditional
Maori life daytimes at Whakarewarewa Thermal Village. In the evenings it is possible to experience a Maori
hangi
and concert. After native experiences and geothermal wonders, Rotoruas third major
drawing card is fishing. World-class trout fishing is available hereon Lake Rotorua
and other regional lakes and streams. Your host is a fishing expert who can organize
guided fishing excursions on Lake Rotorua and throughout the region, with guides,
licenses, transport, provisions, and equipment provided. |

The Lady Knox geyser at
Rotorua's Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland performs its geothermal
dance mornings at 10:15 faithfully. |

In addition, at Rotorua Lodge there is canoeing
on the lake, and motorboat rental. Nearby, there are 5 golf courses (including
Arikikapakapa Golf Club
with active geo-thermal fairways and hazards), hunting and horseback
riding, helicopter touring, white water rafting, and, at the Agrodome theme park,
jetboating, bungy jumping, and zorbingmaking the Rotorua area a major outdoor and adventure
activities center on the North Island.
